The Other Fence

The Big House has a chain link fence in front. Mun and I don't care for the look but it is what it is. There are some fixes to make.

One of the corner posts is dented. It wasn't that way before. I think our neighbor hit it. Just like he did to the kick ass fence in the back.

Here is a part where the bar connecting the fencing to the gate has come off.

And this is the end post. It is bent at the bottom and all fucked up but we shall see what I can do.

This final shot is of the branches and leaves around back. They're getting close to the wires.

Small Victory

Woohoo! Handy Andy or what?!? Switched out the old mailbox on the House for a new, shiny, lockable model. Drilling into the stucco was weird.

We didn't want to get mail at our physical address but we do so it's all good. But we're getting credit card offers delivered to the House mailbox so a lock is a good move.

Next up: for da Honey.

Update:
1. Weatherstripping doors, etc
2. Seal cracks in stucco and parging
3. Motion-activated light in back
4. The ramp covering
5. Attic insulation

Hot Dogs. A Gate. Rape.

T-Mun and I went to the Big House this weekend. Who knew, but there is a Heaven. It is in Florence.

On the menu were five or six all-beef tube steaks. I went for the Wine & Garlic dog.

Loaded with a delicious dose of sauteed onions and peppers. Topped with plain yellow mustard and dill relish.

The bun was nice and soft. Topped with sesame seeds.

Our focus, besides trying the 6Mbps cable internet, was to build the gate. Here's the opening before:

And after:

Took me longer than I thought it would to build it, but it turned out really well. T went to Florence tonight, and evidently there has been some settling of the gate and whatnot. I will check it out this weekend.

Speedy?

Reviews I have read of Bresnan put the cable internet speed at 8Mbps. That would be something! In Aurora with Qwest DSL we are lucky to pull 1.5Mbps. So 8 will be unreal! I will do a speed test right away because I am totally curious as to what we will be getting. Right on I hope!

Good Food!

Since we have the appliances now, we won't be eating total crap when we go down to the Big House. Previously we have eaten at maybe The Bell, Sonic, Wendy's, it was usually not the best. But now we can buy good food and cook. It is almost an actual house what with appliances, cable, internet, and all!

Get It Done

The main focus for the Big House this time: the gate on the fence. Make it and get it up. And also fence-related is figuring out what to do with the bottom gap on the wire fence part. It is not a big gap, maybe grading to 6" at most. Just enough of a gap for doggies to try to escape. Honey definitely would. Max maybe or maybe not.

Big House...

T-scomubone and I went down to finish off the fence. Well, some rain and darkness got in the way of finishing it totally, but we have maybe a day of stuff remaining to complete the fence for Honey & Max...

Back BEFORE:

Back AFTER:

The opening is for the gate. That's for next time.

Side BEFORE:

Side AFTER:

Pickets only on the front and part of the back. Mainly so the dogs can't see out at stuff.

The side from the street now:

The appliances were delivered, so now the only thing remaining from it really feeling like a house is getting installed Tuesday: cable, digital phone, and ... internet service. [Nerd alert: the cable internet is 8Mbps DOWN and 2Mbps UP. On a good day the DSL in Aurora gets 1Mbps down so 8Mbps will kick ass!].

So from our original list of things to do before T starts classes, only the finishing work on the fence remains. Oh, and changing the locks on the front & back doors. And two things to have done before winter: install gutters on E & W sides (N & S have them?!?) and new windows. And one thing on the list of whenever-it-happens: rip up the new carpeting and lay down wood floors. To the god damned yard and trees and weeds all I can say is "SEE YOU IN HELL".

Look At The Little Beaver!

T-bone and I went down to the Big House this weekend to knock another item from the must-do list. This weekend: the fence so Honey & Max have their area. Well, the fence posts only as the cement has to set before putting up the rest of it. We'll finish it off in a couple of weeks.

11 holes to dig. Early in the week, I thought the holes would be a good workout for Thunder and Lightning. But later we decided to get an auger. Thinking it would be quicker and easier. Yeah, not quicker and not easier..

Here's the side before & after:

And here's the back before & after:

No sweat, right? Yeah, right...

We go to the rental place to rent the auger. We're thinking we'll grab the 1-man or 2-man model and go. But they don't rent those. Something about breaking hips and dislocating shoulders. They have two models: the Little Beaver or the Big Beaver. And the guy must love saying that as he was loud and slow each time. THE LITTLE BEAVER OR THE BIG BEAVER. We'll take that one. Over the loudspeaker: I NEED HELP WITH THE LITTLE BEAVER. LOAD UP THE LITTLE BEAVER.

Little my ass! But the E kicks ass so no problem:

This Little Beaver was a monster! Auger connected to the wheel unit by hoses and stabilizer bar. About 300 pounds together! The auger made the act of drilling the holes go much faster and easier than the manual hole digger, but in the end it was no easier. Moving the Beaver was a bitch! Getting it set just right. Honestly, I have never been as totally wiped out as I was after doing these 11 holes. Totally wiped out. More so than digging 10 post holes manually in Aurora, more so than speed climbing Loveland Pass to Torrey's Peak (25,000 feet of vertical gain and loss), more so than the hardest weight workout, more so than anything ever. My LBC is sore. The sore is sore. Ugh. But now that it's over, it feels good to have done that.

And we bought the appliances. You'll meet those later. Thanks to T-scone. She is a very fine helper.

BH - The Move Is Done

On the drive down to Florence, T-scone caught this picture of me and the truck from behind (by the way, she did THE BEST job staying behind me and blocking when I had to get over and whatnot!).

What.. Under the 'P'.. White thing..

Meatsweats, byotch!

Here's me. Much earlier in the day, and happily unaware of the beast awaiting...

Another before the day really began. Naively anticipating the fun! How bad could this be?!?

At the rest stop. Me and the truck, then T, then her mom.

I had to go into the weigh station. I had never done that before. Very exciting.

For the record, the truck is 1800 pounds when empty. We were 3790. That's a lot of shit. I think the friggin' armoire and the one-heavy-bitch treadmill together were the ton.

And here I am. Spent.

No more. 14 or 15 hours. Loaded some stuff in Aurora. Up to Evergreen. Loaded EVERYTHING else. Down to Florence. Unloaded. I'm getting too old for this kinda crap.

Oh, and here's a bonus one...

Nice car and everything, right? Yeah, the old guy driving with his wife in the passenger seat must be doing alright. Living in Denver, cruising around, but he's driving and trying to dial his cell phone. No wait. That's not a phone he's concentrating on. What is he doing? He's trying to turn something on. AWWWW, NO WAY! OLD GUY! IT'S AN EAR HAIR TRIMMER! He's flying up I-25, wife in the co-pilot, and he's digging for gold with his EAR HAIR TRIMMER!

BH - The Move

Big House! We're moving stuff down there this weekend. Picked up the truck, loaded some stuff we have here, we'll motor up to Evergreen tomorrow to get lots of shit, then bust a move to the Big House. Mongo, kick ass in MN!

BH Update

Big House! T-bone and I decided on a date for moving some stuff down to the Big House. Weekend of the 16th. We have the truck reserved. Mommye Tommye coincidentally moved from Evergreen, so we are just about set up as far as furnishings go. That is a good thing!

Meet the Big House

Here are a few pictures of the Big House. It is in Florence, Colorado. The name is perfect for two reasons!

The workshop in the back is HUGE!

There is a swim lane in the back. In Florence all the lucky people have pools.

Honey & Max dig it!
